My name is Penny Waight and I have a passion for fabrics and all things soft furnishings. I live near Alton on the Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire border. Some years ago I found myself in a midlife crisis. Tired of working for other people I longed to do something different from office work. After much thought and deliberation I decided to follow my dream and turn my passion for fabric and sewing into a business and I retrained as a Curtain Maker.
I worked for 15 years in sales so I pulled on all my knowledge of people skills and started my own business and believe me in this business you need a lot of people skills. I have been a professional curtain maker for over 20 years. I have produced curtains, blinds and soft furnishings for a wide range of clients, both private and trade. I have experienced a large range of projects from large country houses to small apartments and from narrow boats to motor homes and most things in between. A big part of my business is helping clients choose which colours and fabrics are best suited to their room, also advice on fire retardant fabrics for commercial use.
Knowing that there is a real skill shortage in this profession, I decided that I should start passing on my skills to others who wished to learn.
Blindingly Simple is now in it’s 9th year of running training courses – the success has been amazing. I have had people from every part of the country and also some from as far away as Brazil and South Africa. Some want to start their own business and some just want to do it for themselves, there are also some people that have always wanted to make curtains but have just not got around to it. But they all had the passion for sewing.
I have now helped so many people to realise their dreams of starting their own business in this profession I have lost count, they have come from all over the world and I love it!!!
All sorts of people come on my courses, all ages and from all walks of life. Some people have come here with very few sewing skills and others have come with very good sewing skills, the one thing they all have in common is the passion for learning and the passion for sewing. They have all enjoyed and had fun learning a new skill whether it is just for themselves or whether it is for starting up their own business.
Everyone can sew, all I need is your willingness to learn – so come and let me teach you to make the very best.
I now want to pass my skills and knowledge on to you – the pitfalls and the pleasure.
Phone me on 01420 565965 and we can have a chat.
These people have made the dream come true so you can too.
